Lee: Thank Kamla for Juniper

THE occasion of first gas from
the Juniper field is due to the vision
of the former People’s Partnership
(PP) government, said
United National Congress (UNC)
chairman David Lee in a statement
yesterday.
He said the present Government
is benefitting from the PP
government’s policies, especially
for Juniper, the fifth of BP’s seven
upstream major project start-ups
set for 2017.
“The project which is expected
to boost bpTT’s gas production
capacity by an estimated 590
million standard cubic feet a day
(mmscfd) comes at a very critical
time when our nation continues
to battle a shortage of natural gas
and as a result this signifies the
initial steps for citizens to regain
the standard of living they once
enjoyed under the People’s Partnership.
“The Juniper Project is a reminder
of the vision the past People’s
Partnership administration
held for the energy sector as well
as for national prosperity given
that one of the major drivers behind
the commissioning of this
project which occurred in 2014
was the accelerated capital allowances
and fiscal incentives which
were designed and offered by the
Kamla Persad-Bissessar-led administration.”
Lee said that, with a sense of
patriotism, the UNC welcomed
the successful outcomes of these
incentives which were shown in
the Juniper Project and in the
successful gas finds of the Macademia
and Savannah fields that
would also help curb the natural
gas shortage and generate revenue.
“Given the vulnerable economic
times coupled with the
lack of vision and planning by
the Rowley-led administration
towards the national economy it
is comforting to see the policies
and initiatives of the former Kamla
Persad-Bissessar government
bearing fruits to the benefit of our
citizenry.”
