Applicants to UWI undergrad programme

Yesterday, a number of local students awaiting admission to the faculties of law and medicine at the St Augustine campus expressed frustration at having to wait to be told whether or not they were accepted to the two programmes they wished to pursue.

Anxious students have said that a number of their colleagues who recently received their Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) results were readily admitted to their programmes, while they are being told that their applications were still being processed.

Two students, whose applications were accepted at the Cave Hill campus, Barbados were still hoping that their applications would have been confirmed for the St Augustine campus, as it would be less expensive. One student travelled yesterday to Cave Hill and another was due to travel today after not having a positive response from St Augustine.

The student who is due to travel to Cave Hill today said, she still worries about Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses funding which she is still to receive.

An applicant who is seeking to do medicine said she was frustrated as another applicant was accepted with lower grades than hers, and she was still “in limbo” as of yesterday.

Newsday understands that following the release of the CAPE results, a number of students in both faculties who received all Grade Is were accepted to the programmes they applied for.

However, some who received Grade Is with a mixture of other grades, were still being told that their applications were being processed.

According to the Marketing and Communications office, applicants who wrote the CAPE/Advanced Level examinations and who have not received an e-mail from the Admissions Division by October 28, may visit Temporary Classroom No 3 for consultation between the hours of 9am and 6 pm on the schedule provided.
