Chaguanas woman was strangled and stabbed

An autopsy done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James yesterday revealed the mother of two bled to death after the brutal attack at her home. At about 9 am on Monday, Singh’s husband, Martin, 79, found her body in a pool of blood with a piece of cloth around her throat at their home at Imamshah Street, Chaguanas.

Martin, a stroke patient with limited mobility, managed to walk to the front gates and alerted two passers-by.

Singh, a retiree, previously worked as a customer sales representative with Guardian Life Insurance. She had been caring for her husband.

After the gruesome discovery, Martin fell ill and had to be taken to the Chaguanas Health Centre for medication.

Police said he was resting comfortably yesterday in the care of relatives.

The couple lived alone as their adult children and grandchildren live abroad.

Singh’s killing occurred just two days after former director of the National Museum and Art Gallery, Dr Claire Broadbridge, 80, was killed at her home at Fondes Amandes Road, St Ann’s. In the case of Broadbridge, killers slit her throat from ear to ear as well as stabbed her.
