TT Coast Guard vessel en route to Dominica
Newsday has confirmed that 41 members of the Coast Guard and Regiment are onboard the vessel, which departed Trinidad at 7.45 am yesterday.
Depending on sea conditions, the journey will take between 20 to 24 hours, which means the TTS Moruga should arrive in Dominica by 7.45 am tomorrow. In related news, there were reports today that members of the National Helicopter Service transported communications experts from St Lucia to Dominica to help re-connect the island with the outside world; communication links were severed during the passage of the then category five hurricane.
Meanwhile the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) has partnered with the Foundation for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL) to collect donations for victims of Hurricane Maria in Dominica. ODPM Acting CEO, Colonel Dave Williams, told Newsday that “FEEL has agreed to provide warehousing space to store donations.” Donations of items other than clothes can be made at FEEL’s warehouse on the Fernandes Compound, Laventille from 9 am tomorrow.
