Erin Farm gears for return
THE EDITOR: I refer to a letter in your newspaper of Monday, Septem-ber 29, headlined “Late action on Erin Farm problem.”
In the letter, the writer makes a number of claims which are totally erroneous. The writer claims that when a problem was discovered with three of our products, instead of pulling the products off the shelves, our company instead dropped the price thereby putting the public at risk. There is absolutely no truth to this assertion. The facts of the matter are that as soon as we were advised that there was a problem, we immediately issued a voluntary recall of the products in question. In addition, we immediately ceased all production and undertook a thorough sanitisation of the plant and an audit to determine the possible source of the problem.
We have since been working closely with the Ministry of Health and the UWI’s Veterinary Health Laboratory and last week, all tests conducted by the Ministry on our plant proved negative and we were given the clearance to resume production. Further tests are currently being done on the products manufactured and our products will return to the shelves of supermarkets and groceries only when these tests also prove negative. Erin Farm has been in the meat-processing business for 14 years during which time we have had an impeccable record of quality and safety and it is our intention to ensure that this continues.
