Warning of the coming storm

THE EDITOR: Allow me to congratulate Jeremy Jones of Port-of-Spain for his timely letter, published in Newsday Friday September 26. Mr Jones hit the nail on the head. He warns Trinidadians of the coming storm of the wave of violent criminals, that those who survive the murder and mayhem that we are now experiencing, can expect in the year 2010.

Forget 2020, Prime Minister Patrick Manning needs to protect the people of TT right now. Forget the failed operations: Anaconda and Baghdad. Forget all international meetings and seminars, to discuss the safety of foreigners and tourists. See about the safety of the people of Trinidad and Tobago first. The late Father of the Nation Dr Eric Williams warned about the influx of tourists, saying he did not want his people to be a nation of waiters and cooks. The high percentage of HIV/Aids in Tobago is there for all to see. I am calling on the Prime Minister to come up with a new strategy to fight crime in TT. Save us from the onslaught of violent criminals and killers. He must also take the latest warning of the UN on dangerous Port-of-Spain seriously.
