Kidnapping of Caroni woman astounding behaviour says Chamber

The kidnapping of 33-year-old Shamshoon Mohammed, who was dragged out of an aerobics class at the Caroni Community Centre Wednesday night, marks a dramatic turn for the worse in the kidnapping spree that is wreaking emotional and psychological havoc in the country, the Chamber of Commerce said in a statement yesterday.

The Chamber said it was astounded by this development, where someone could be kidnapped in front of so many people. The statement added: “We call on Government to re-introduce legislation and to strengthen detection and enforcement measures that would tighten the grip on the lawless. We can see absolutely no reason for the Opposition to withhold its full support of these measures. We call on Mr Panday and his colleagues to reconsider their position and put the country before party and self.”
