London: Tobago will get what it deserves

THA Chief Secretary  Orville London said that he is confident  the total figure allocated to the THA in today’s Budget will be one that will comfortably carry out the activities it believes are critical to Tobago’s development. Earlier this year London presented a $1.65 billion budget package, and following several meetings with Junior Finance Minister Conrad Enill, had expressed optimism that the Budget will be “truly reflective” of Tobago’s needs. He emphasised  it was evident that Tobago needed to play catch up with Trinidad and “in order to play catch up, there has to be accelerated development, and accelerated development has to be funded.”

London however refused to divulge whether he knew the actual figure the THA would receive, saying that even if he knew, it would be unethical to divulge such information before today’s presentation. The Chief Secretary said however, that there were other avenues and strategies available to the THA for additional funding outside of the Central Government should it not receive the amount requested. The THA will be well represented at today’s Budget presentation as the Chief Secretary expects to be joined by at least four other THA Secretaries, including the Secretary for Finance Dr Anselm London. “I believe, I hope that we will be coming back to Tobago relatively happy.” London said.
