Father of two killed in Belmont

Three days after his brother Stanley was shot dead at Laventille, a Belmont father of two was gunned down while walking up a flight of stairs in Belmont on Monday night. Steve Dickson, is the 178th murder victim for the year. Reports revealed that around 8.25 pm, Dickson, 26, a father of two who operated a parlour at St Barbs Road, Belmont, was walking down some steps when he was confronted by a group of men. Reports state that Dickson was shot six times about the body. The gunmen fled the scene and a bleeding Dickson was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. When Newsday visited the scene, blood stains were visible on the steps where Dickson was shot. Neighbours described him as a good man who earned an honest living. They feel that the persons who killed Dickson are seeking to “wipe out” his family.

Recently, another brother of Stanley and Steve went into hiding after gunmen stormed a house where a card game was in progress at Laventille and shot two persons to death. Carmentha Dickson, mother of the dead men, told police that her son was killed hours before she buried her other son, Stanley. She disputed claims that Stanley was a gang-member and added that none of her sons were involved in crime including the murdered Steve and Stanley. Cpl Edwards of the Belmont Police Station is investigating.
