Kidnapped Debe man found in Tobago

DEBE “PH” taxi-driver David Bhulawan, 20, yesterday escaped his abductors who were keeping him hostage in Tobago. Around 11.30 am, Bhulawan walked into the Roxborough police station and reported to officers that he had escaped his abductors who snatched him from Trinidad and took him to Tobago.

Information reaching Newsday about his abduction and escape was sketchy up to press time yesterday, but sources said Bhulawan reported to police that he was abducted, tied up and placed in a van. According to Bhulawan, he was taken on the inter-island ferry to Tobago. Sources said the young man, who did not appear to have any visible injuries, was taken to the hospital where he was treated and discharged. He then went to the Scarbor-ough Police Station where he gave police a statement. Arrangements were being made last night to have Bhulawan escorted back to Trinidad sometime today.

When Newsday contacted his family yesterday, his father, Benjamin Bhulawan, said the police had not informed him that his son was found in Tobago. He said police told them they traced a telephone call made by the kidnappers to Tobago. The father was anxious to know whether his son was actually found and whether he was alright. No one witnessed the abduction of Bhulawan, a “PH” taxi driver, who was kidnapped sometime on Monday. His relatives only knew he had been abducted when the kidnappers called them the following morning demanding $200,000. Up to the time Bhulawan would have made his escape, the relatives were still waiting on the kidnappers to call again. Bhulawan’s car was found in the car park of Tropical Plaza, Pointe-a-Pierre, yesterday morning.
