Countdown to Six Flags soca summer
Featuring Trinidad and Tobago’s 2009 Carnival quadruple-crown champion Fay-Ann Lyons, Billboard-topping artist Kevin Lyttle, International soca sensation Rupee, The “Fire Man” Bunji Garlin, soca veteran Iwer George, Burning Flames, Trini Jacobs, and Super Jigga TC, the highly anticipated second annual Caribbean Summer Series will provide cash-strapped family with day-long entertainment, which includes theme park admission, access to rides, Wild Safari, special events, and the live concert for less than US$60. Money raised from the event will subsidise tuition and provide financial assistance to students of Caribbean and African-American Heritage going off to college this fall.
Last year’s Six Flags’ Summer Concert Series attracted over 8,000 patrons with the “King of Soca” Machel Montano. With this year’s stunning line-up, promoters are gearing up for another super crowded, super successful event.
Last Thursday, International Soca Sensation Rupee joined CCB International, Six Flags, Inc, Upscale Crowd Entertainment and scores of Caribbean music fans at Club Eden for the official launch of the Six Flags Caribbean Summer Concert Series.
Meanwhile, Soca Queen Allison Hinds “Rolled it” at Six Flags in Georgia on June 21.
From the moment Hinds entered the Six Flags stage, the atmosphere changed; no, it was electric; it was explosive. The Soca Queen was greeted by screaming fans as she started her set of the Georgia leg of the CCB International Six Flags Caribbean Summer Concert Series: The Allison Hinds Show.
Hinds danced, teased, sang, and of course wined, wined, wined, wined and wined some more as she thoroughly entertained the patrons in attendance. The Bajan star called out to her audience and they responded enthusiastically. A symbol of beauty, energy and woman empowerment, Hinds had Caribbean and non-Caribbean people eating out of the palm of her hand.
Hinds gave an intensely pleasurable performance that was filled with hit songs. The songstress, with the audience following every step of the way, went through songs like “Togetherness”, “Faluma”, “Never Too Late”, “Roll it Gal” and many more, she even included a couple new songs like “Chocolate and Vanilla”.
Before Hinds had gone on stage, there were performances from Kevin Lyttle (“Turn Me On” Fame) and Georgia’s own Natural High. Djs for the event included DJs Tony Tempo and Choice One. MC’s for the concert were WRFG Radio’s Jason SkyWalker and Life Rhythm & Spice TV’s DJ Stephen. The event was billed as a summer daycation as your ticket not only allowed you to enjoy the show, but the ticketholder had access to all the rides and attractions in the theme park.
This was the first time that Six Flags in Georgia has ever hosted a Caribbean concert, staging it during Caribbean American Heritage Month (June), which was very appropriate. Six Flags in New Jersey (more popularly known as Great Adventure) has staged this event for several years prior, partnering with CCB International. CCB International worked with the promotion companies TriniFly and WildRoots to present the Georgia leg and will be working with them for the New Jersey leg.
