Woodbrook under water

Heavy rains yesterday afternoon resulted in flash flooding in several areas of Port-of-Spain, including parts of the Queen’s Park Oval and Wrightson Road. From around 2.30 pm reports began coming in that several streets around the city area had been made virtually inaccessible by the flood waters. The entrance to Young Pow Street in Maraval was impassable, as was La Sieva Road and Dennis Mahabir Street in Woodbrook. Elizabeth Street, parts of  the Queen’s Park Oval were covered with at least four inches of water. An officer at the Fire Services Division, Wrightson Road, revealed that the Mucurapo River, near to Fatima College, had burst its banks, flooding surrounding areas. He noted that complaints had come in from the Princess Elizabeth Home as well as from a number of residents in the area, including Goodwill Industries. However, he said, the flood waters eventually subsided once the rains stopped.
