Prison officers deny drug trafficking charge

Prison officers attached to the Port-of-Spain prison said yesterday that while it is being alleged that some of their colleagues are involved in illegal activities at the prison, no one has been able to produce any evidence to support these allegations. The prison officers were responding to the drug find at the Port-of-Spain prison on Wednesday when a quarter pound of marijuana was discovered at the prison. Police investigators from the Port-of-Spain CID went to the prison on Wednesday and carried out enquiries into the drug find. They claimed that some prison officers are involved in drug trafficking inside the prison. This was hotly denied by some prison officers who telephoned Newsday yesterday. Prisons Commissioner Carlos McHoney has received a report on the drug find.
