Singer cashier bitten in robbery

A CASHIER at the St James branch of Singer was yesterday bitten on her wedding finger as one of three bandits bit off her wedding band, part of the loot they made off with, police sources said. Apart from having her wedding band bitten off, police said Maureen James was robbed of other jewelry and personal and company money amounting to $3,000.  The bandits, who struck around 1 pm, also robbed customer Pascall Borneo of $40 in cash. James was reportedly treated for the bite, which police sources said was quite evident.  After the robbery, the bandits fled the scene but police said at some stage two of the bandits left one of the accomplices and escaped in a waiting vehicle on Bombay Street, which is obliquely opposite Singer. Police said the third bandit was held on Bombay Street by officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) and Emergency-999.

The Barataria man was allegedly held with jewelry, cash and a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with four rounds of ammunition. A report was made and a party of officers under Cpl Bruce, including PCs Ramirez, Dasent and Barrow, visited the scene and made a search of the area for the other two bandits, who remained at large up to late evening.  PC Dasent is continuing investigations. The same outlet of Singer was robbed on September 25. On that occasion, the two bandits made off with $6000. Then, the two bandits came into the store, sat down, watched employees before one of them then pulled out a firearm and held up and robbed workers.
