PM to deliver feature address at Nagar

Prime Minister Patrick Manning is expected to deliver the feature address at the Divali Nagar tonight at 8.30 pm. Nagar, which started on Wednesday, will run until the eve of this year’s Divali celebrations on October 23. According to the president of the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC), Deokinanan Sharma, there is already an increase in the number of people attending this year’s celebrations. “Normally there is a huge crowd on the last day for the CLICO fireworks, but this year a wide cross-section of communities from near and far are attending the Nagar since it started,” he said. The theme of this year’s Nagar is “The Child.” Many of the entertainers have been producing pieces in keeping with this year’s theme. The main stage will feature some of the big names in entertainment. Patrons can look forward to top class entertainment as the various artistes render their songs, music, dances and drama for this year’s programme.

This year’s Nagar carries more than 50 commercial booths as well as more than 30 religious booths. The main stage features the talent of some of the best artistes in the country. Members of the famed Rhythms International orchestra will be providing music and songs. Singers Amina Ramsaran and Premchand Jagdeo will also be performing. Members of the Sangeet Mahavidyayalai, led by the talented husband and wife team of Rana and Susan Mohip, will be doing a presentation entitled, “Bachon Ki Awaaz” on tonight’s programme. Among the other big names to perform tonight are the Railway Line Tassa Group, Baal and Lily John, Nada Sangam Steel Orchestra, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Sandra Sookdeo Dance Group, Preetanjali’s models and members of the Rajasthani folk dancers from India. Presenters for the nights programme include, Surujdeo Mangaroo and Heidi Rambharose of Radio 90.5 FM. The Nagar is free to the public.
