Woman douses husband with boiling water
UPSET and angry after catching her husband in the arms of another woman, a 32-year-old Oropouche woman threw a pot of boiling water on her husband, who was asleep on a couch at their home early yesterday morning.
After dousing him with the boiling water, the woman telephoned an ambulance and journeyed to the Fyzabad Police Station, where she surrendered to Oropouche police officers, temporarily based at that station. The 30-year-old victim of South Oropouche suffered burns to the upper area of his body. After being treated and warded for a short while, he was discharged from the San Fernando General Hospital. Newsday understands the man has since asked police not to charge his wife.
In giving a statement to police, the woman claimed that she and her spouse had been having arguments on a daily basis and she had been subjected to shame and anguish over her husband’s extra-marital affairs. The woman told police she had been married to the man for the past eight years. According to police sources, on Thursday, the woman threatened to burn the man and disfigure him, to prevent other women from having anything to do with him. She made good on the promise yesterday when around 6 am, she poured a pot of boiling water on her husband’s chest, while he was asleep on a couch at their home. As he writhed in pain and screamed for help, the woman telephoned the EHS, gave the medical technician her address and then left the house en route to the Fyzabad Police Station.
