Dad of three gunned down in Belmont

A 23-year-old father of three was shot dead minutes after visiting his girlfriend at her Carr Street Belmont home early yesterday. Floyd Williams alias “Cess” was shot three times around 3 am yesterday. Reports revealed that Williams of Belmont Terrace who was employed as a trainee supervisor with National Fisheries, visited his girlfriend on Friday night. He was leaving her home and walking out of Carr Street when he was shot. Williams was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors who examined the body of Williams discovered that he was shot in the head. Police investigators said yesterday that Williams had a matter in court pending for wounding. He had one conviction for robbery.

His mother Jennifer Williams told Sunday Newsday that her son was not involved with any gang and was not a bandit. She said that based on information passed on to her, Floyd was seen liming with two men at Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain on Friday night. She is of the view that it was the same two men who shot and killed her son. The distraught woman pointed out that when her son left home on Friday, she never knew that it was the last time that she was seeing him alive. She added that her son was not a limer and had dreams of being enlisted into the Coast Guard. He had already applied for enlistment and was awaiting word. At Belmont Terrace where he lived, neighbours of the dead man said that his shooting death came as a shock to them. An autopsy will be carried out on Monday to determine the cause of death. Cpl Bruce and Ag Sgt Grant of the Port-of-Spain CID are investigating.
