Cops seize gun, ammo and army uniform in raids

21 persons were arrested and an UZI automatic weapon, 14 rounds of 0.380 ammunition and two pairs of army camouflage uniforms seized during an early morning exercise carried out by the Inter Agency Task Force and the Port-of-Spain CID. Reports revealed that around 2 am, the joint team of police and army officers went to several areas in Laventille, Beetham, Sea Lots and Belmont where they executed several search warrants. During the exercise officers went to a house where they arrested a man wanted for a recent murder. They then searched another house where they found the two pairs of army camouflage uniforms. Police officers believe that with the seizure of the uniforms they may be able to make a breakthrough in several robberies where persons posed as army officers. A fish gun was also seized at another house. The exercise was coordinated by ACP Operations Oswyn Allard and led by Supt Gonzales. Officers taking part in the exercise included Inspector Sahadeo Singh, Cpls Collins, Austin and others.
