Carnival 2K4 is here
The National Carnival Commission launches Carnival 2K4 today with a jump up on the streets of Port-of-Spain, followed by a massive fete at the Queen’s Park Savannah. ll you need to join the jam is a T-shirt from your favourite mas band or steelband, company or posse; or a mas costume. ut on your T-shirt or costume and meet the NBN music truck on the Eastern Main Road outside the Fernandes Compound at 3.30 pm, then follow the big truck to the Brian Lara Promenade and join the parade up to the Savannah. or those coming from Port-of-Spain’s west end, you may jump with the I-95.5 FM music truck from Western Main Road (near George Cabral Street) up to the city to meet the rest of the parade.
If you prefer pan music exclusively, then meet Angostura Woodbrook Playboyz, bpTT Renegades, La Creole Pan Groove, the Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars, La Horquetta Pan Groove, Solo Pan Knights, Scrunters Pan Groove or the Witco Desperadoes at 4 pm on The Promenade. he route from Fernandes is west along the Eastern Main Road onto South Quay, then onto the Brian Lara Promenade, north on Abercromby Street, east at Park Street, then north along Charlotte Street to enter the Savannah via Keate Street. rom Western Main Road, the other music truck will move east to Pole Carew Street in Woodbrook, then south to Ariapita Avenue, east along the Avenue onto Park Street, where the parade joins the body coming from the city centre to head to the Savannah. t the Savannah, NCC chairman Kenny de Silva will welcome guests, then Culture and Tourism Minister, Ms Pennelope Beckles will formally declare the 2004 Carnival Season open. fter the brief formalities, you’ll party to performances from Scrunter, Baron, Destra, Johnny King, Maximus Dan, Lord Superior and Skatie and see live models present next year’s mas costumes. ll festival lovers are invited to join the street parade and Savannah Party today as the National Carnival Commission launches Carnival 2K4.
