Indians live in Westmoorings

THE EDITOR: Mr Panday’s unfortunate remark that kidnappers do not target residents of Westmoorings or Goodwood Park brought the reaction that could have been expected. On Wednesday October 8, an attempt to kidnap a mother and child was foiled by the mother and local Westmooring residents who came to her aid. We have come to expect rash irresponsible statements from Mr Panday and it is a tragedy when some may be construed as an incitement to violence.

Ironically his statement that only Indians are the kidnappers’ target vis-a-vis residence of Westmoorings reflects his lack of knowledge as to the movement of ethnic groups in Trinidad. For his information Westmoorings has a majority of Indian residents, and it is common knowledge that homes in that area come unto the market are purchased by that ethnic group. Mr Panday is fortunate in that if the allegations regarding the size of his and his wife’s bank  account in the UK are correct he would have no difficulty in paying a kidnapper’s ransom.
