Blackout hits north east

SEVERAL parts of Cascade, St Anns, Belmont, Diego Martin, Santa Cruz, Morvant and upper Port-of-Spain were  yesterday without an electricity supply due to a problem at the Power Generation Plant in Port-of-Spain.

Corporate Communications Manager at Powergen Dennis Mcomie told Newsday that technicians were working on the problem but he could not say how soon the problem would be rectified. Newsday learnt that several business places were affected by the electricity outage. According to a release issued yesterday by Mc Comie, several areas of the North-East Ring were also affected by the outage. Angry home-owners said they were forced to throw away vegetables and cooked food left over from Sunday, while those with business places complained that they were forced to close their businesses for the day. Power was restored to the area around 2 pm yesterday. A generation fault at PowerGen Power Station in Port-of-Spain reportedly caused the blackout. Technicians were feverishly called out to work to have the power restored.
