TTCB leadership for Ellis Lewis
THE EDITOR: It is testimony for a job well done that so much energy is being accorded to Alloy Lequay in the campaign for the next President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.
Our memories might be sort but in his autobiography, Winning Against the Tide, Alloy Lequay succinctly unfolds the saga for the nationalisation of cricket administration in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a commentary which is worthy of reading. Some may wish to re-write history to realise their ambition but cricket administration in our republic must not be returned to colonialism and the next era must begin with Ellis Lewis. It is because of the mission of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board through its national zonal structure that clubs, players and administrators experienced the opportunity for development, growth and achievement and found place on the national stage. It is this platform which gave Augustine Logie, Ian Bishop, Rajendra Dhanraj, David Williams, Brian Lara, Mervyn Dillon and Darren Ganga stardom. The hunger for power, prestige, status and command must have no place in an organisation renowned for its stability, democracy, integrity and independence.
The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board is the best example of the self-help character and glowing proof of what the common purpose between voluntary service and corporate sponsorship can achieve. In addition, this institution has been recognised as the best administered sports organisation in our country without being tarnished with the brush of financial impropriety nor challenged with legal proceedings. Further, it has been the recipient of several prestigious awards and most significantly it has the singular honour of being the first national sports organisation to establish its own permanent home. Given the decline in the voluntary spirit in our society and the growing indiscipline at all levels of national life, shouldn’t we be proud of the achievements of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board? Why create a UTC/FCB dragon within this exemplary organisation? The baton of leadership of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board must now pass to Ellis Lewis.
