Light up Savannah for Christmas and Carnival
THE EDITOR: As we approach the Christmas and 2004 Carnival Season, one of the pressing concerns is the level of crime as it affects us all. One suggestion that not only would help protect against this situation, but as well allow the population in general to better enjoy the gem of Port-of-Spain, the Queen’s Park Savannah. Let’s light up the Savannah! Where ever there is a street light illuminating the road around the Savannah, put a street light over the pitched pavement as well. What this will do is to make the entire outskirts of the Savannah extremely well lit at night and the thousands of citizens and visitors will feel that much safer as the dark and dangerous fringe area would now be brightly lit and more welcome. The joggers, the coconut, corn and the oyster vendors, even whole families could now use the Savannah without fear of those muggers who hide in the present darkness. Even corporate TT could get involved! Sponsoring three or five lights would easily allow TTEC to have this project completed before Christmas. Come on TT! Let’s do this... now!
