Teen drinks poison

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the apparent attempted suicide by a 13-year-old schoolboy, who remains warded in critical condition at San Fernando General Hospital. Although not wanting to say much, police sources told Newsday that on Wednesday the victim, a Form Three student at the Penal Junior Secondary school, along with some friends, secured uniforms of the Siparia Junior Secondary school.

Dressed in the Siparia Junior Secondary school uniforms, the Penal Junior Secondary students, police sources said, went to the Siparia school and confronted students from that school. When the teen reached his Villa Bera Street, Siparia home on Wednesday evening, he was confronted by his father who scolded the boy for being involved in the fracas. In a fit of rage, sources said, the boy later drank a poisonous substance used to poison rats and collapsed. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and remains warded in critical condition. Efforts by Newsday to reach teachers of both schools, for a comment on the issue yesterday, proved futile. Investigations are continuing.
