Praise for Penal Rotary
THE EDITOR: Our human condition is laid bare, when our social layers are peeled away to reveal the core of our existence. Often, we are overwhelmed by a sense of hopelessness: murder, kidnapping and corruption: the freshness of life, it seems, snatched away.
And therefore, one must stop in one’s track, to take note of any such organisation which shows compassion in the midst of it all. I was witness to one such effort, it was the Penal’s Rotary Club ‘Walk for Health’ which took place on October 5, 2003. Apart from the usefulness of the walk participants were treated to free health tests: sugar, pressure, cholesterol and eye. And still, the refreshments were like Christmas in October. Thankfully, buried deep in the heart of this land, seeds of love sprout to show us all what this short, and sometimes brutal, life can still offer. Indeed, the Spirit of Mother Teresa lives on with us. To Anna Antoine and all the other members of the Penal Rotary Club I say thanks, I am sure, on behalf of all lucky participants.
