Moral standards lift Cricket Board
THE EDITOR: The attached is a message to all our members issued in November 2002. You might want to publish.
At our last Annual General Meeting I indicated that I had offered my services as your President for a final two years ending October 27, 2003. As I begin my last year in office, which is my 25th as your President, it is incumbent on me to remind you of what I have oft times alluded to and that is the moral and ethical standards which have informed our journey and placed us at the forefront of national organisations in TT. These standards were emblazoned on three solid pillars, one of which is stability whose definition speaks to a steadfastness of purpose and permanence.
I have selected this theme as my statement to you today for two purposes. One is to counsel and guide you as your thought process is ignited to deal with the fundamental issue of leadership. The second is to dispel the myth preached by our detractors that we are a quasi-democratic organisation. For the record, let me remind you that we have had elections for officers and executive members on every occasion they were due for 45 years. During that time we have elected two Presidents, nine vice Presidents, five Treasurers, six General Secretaries and numerous Executive Members at the national level and every Zonal Council has done likewise over the past 22 years.
The fact that we have conducted our affairs with decorum and resisted attempts at destabilisation is to our eternal credit. An examination of national organisations in various activities, not excluding politics, reminds us of the chaos that instability at the leadership level produces. The national community is of the view that the country lacks leadership. The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board does not. My unambiguous message to you and to Zonal Councils in particular, therefore, is to resist the culture of confrontation and maintain the stability of our cherished organisation, a beacon in a national environment of confusion. May God guide us as we continue to serve humanity through the great game of cricket.
