Mom chopped dead

A Sangre Grande mother of three was chopped to death early yesterday morning.

Reports are that Georgiana Sookhoo went liming and returned to her McShine Street, Sangre Grande home around 1 am. Sookhoo went to bed and was awakened around 3 am by a man she knew. An argument, erupted between the two. During the argument the man reportedly pulled Sookhoo out of the downstairs apartment of the two storey board house, in to the road and dealt her several chops about the body and on her head. He then fled the scene on foot. Sookhoo’s screams alerted neighbours, who called the Emergency Health Services to rush her to the Sangre Grande District Hospital. Sookhoo was later transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where she died around 8 am while undergoing emergency surgery.  The woman’s three sons,  ages 16, 17 and 19, live in the upstairs apartment of the house and did not witness the incident. Sookhoo’s children have since been taken into the care of the dead woman’s relatives.

A team of officers, including Senior Supt Randolph Protain, Supt John Trevajo, ASP Earl Gonzales, Insp Edmund Thomas, Sgt Fermin Roy and Cpl Neville “Toco Burroughs” Sankar visited the scene of the incident and conducted enquiries.  The officers later found the suspect hiding out in a house in the Sangre Grande area. The 40-year-old man was detained and is presently assisting police with their investigation. Newsday understands that charges are expected to be laid against the man following an autopsy and consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions on Monday. Although the cause of the argument has not been ascertained, reports indicate that Sookhoo had evicted the man on Monday following a dispute. Cpl Sankar of the Sangre Grande CID is continuing the investigation.
