Snaggs visits chopped cop

Acting Commissioner of Police, Everald Snaggs, yesterday went to the San Fernando General Hospital where he paid a visit to the policeman who was chopped on his hands by a mentally deranged man, last Tuesday.

Snaggs also visited the policeman’s attacker who was shot twice and is also warded at the hospital. Police Constable, Wazir Ali, attached to  E-999, was chopped after he responded to a call that a mentally-ill man was behaving in a violent manner at Hall Trace, Hardbargain. The deranged man was shot twice in his abdomen and leg. Speaking to Newsday at Ward 4 yesterday, Snaggs said it was unfortunate when a policeman is injured in the line of duty. He said he was told that the policeman’s prognosis was “not too bad” and he should be discharged in a couple of days. Not wanting to say too much about the matter which is under investigations, he said: “All I can say is that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the suspect. On hearing that the suspect was also warded at the hospital, Snaggs also visited the suspect who was handcuffed to a bed at Ward 7. Snaggs spoke briefly with his relatives and then left.
