Man charged with kidnapping cop

A 31-year-old Princes Town maxi driver has been charged with kidnapping an on duty policeman. He was also charged with three other offences related to road traffic  violations. According to reports PC Krishna Jagdeosingh who is attached to the Princes Town Police Station, was conducting traffic exercise duty in the vicinity of Lothians Road, Princes Town around  10.30 am Friday. During this time he noticed the driver of a black band  maxi breach a ‘No U Turn’ sign along the Naparima/ Mayaro Road.

Reports further stated that as the driver started reversing his maxi away, the policeman quickly approached and cautioned him to stop his vehicle. The driver came to a halt at the junction of Lothians Road. The police man asked the driver to produce his driver’s permit and other documents while he proceeded to sit in the front seat of the maxi. While the police was examining the documents the  driver sped off and  drove for approximately half a mile, all the while with the police man in the front seat. Reports further stated that the vehicle came  to a halt because of  traffic at which point the police officer opened the front passenger door and jumped out of the maxi. He then returned to  the Princes Town police station  and reported the matter. Later in the day a team of police officers from the Princes Town station headed by Ag Woman Sgt Lee Foon arrested the driver  at his home located Cotton Hill Trace, Princes Town. Sgt Lee Foon charged the man with kidnaping while the PC Jagdeosingh charged the man with three offences including  disobeying a ‘No U Turn’ sign, reversing for an unreasonable distance and use of obscene language. The maxi driver is  due to appear before a  Princes Town magistrate tomorrow.
