Muslim holy month begins
THE new moon was sighted shortly after sunset yesterday.
It means the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan officially starts today. During this month, from sunrise to sunset, all Muslims must abstain from eating, drinking and sexual activity and engage themselves in acts of piety and charity. Kamal Hosein, of the Tunapuna Mosque and chairman of Region “A” of the Anjuma Sunnat-ul-Jama’at Asociation called on all Muslims yesterday to abide strictly by their religious beliefs. The former General-Secretary of ASJA said Muslims should make all efforts to observe the holy month and attend the five daily congregational prayers when possible.
