Tobago man dies in fire
An elderly Tobago man was killed early Friday while trying to extinguish a fire at his home. Paul Keith, 58, died from smoke inhalation, according to a post mortem conducted later that day. Reports indicate that the fire started at his home at Spring Garden Trace, Plymouth Road, near Scarborough, around 3.45 am. The house was completely gutted. Keith’s common-law wife reported that she fled the burning house while he attempted to put out the blaze using three buckets of water. She said the flames continued to spread and she urged him to vacate the burning house because she felt that the fire was too much for him, but he did not heed her warning. When he did try to get out, he could not make it and got only as far as the kitchen area, she said. The cause of the fire was not immediately established and Fire Service officials are continuing investigations.
