Four arrested for kidnappings and murders in south
TWO men believed to be members of the Muslimeen were among four arrested in connection with several reports of murder, kidnapping, robbery and rapes in the districts of Moruga and Barrackpore.
The men, aged 33 and 34 of St Mary’s, Moruga, and two others aged 36 and 43 of Barrackpore, were held on Wednesday as police were leading crime-eradication exercises in the district. Reports indicate that three of the men were held in their homes, while the fourth was arrested after a high-speed chase through the streets of Barrackpore. On Wednesday around 6.30 am Sgt Rajkumar, Cpl Nagessar and PC Sulliman were on exercise duty when they noticed one of the suspects speeding past them in a Datsun 120Y with three other occupants. Acting on suspicion, the cops followed in hot pursuit for almost 20 minutes before they cornered the vehicle and detained the suspect. The three other persons in the vehicle were questioned and released. The gang of four spent the weekend at Barrackpore police station, and today it is expected they will be placed on identification parades and interrogated by detectives in the homicide division.
Inquiries are continuing.
