Alleyne never TMRU director

THE EDITOR: I refer to an article in Monday October 27, 2003 issue of Newsday entitled “Graduation Time at UWI” in which you state “Alleyne was....and Director of the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit (TMRU) for nine years.”

This statement is incorrect. I was Head of TMRU from 1970 to 1973 and then Director of TMRU and Professor of Experimental Me-dicine from 1973 to 1980.  Dr GAO Alleyne, as he then was, worked at the TMRU but was never its director.
