Humphrey approved Vale View project

THE EDITOR: I wish to support the position of Newsday with respect to position taken by your newspaper against the actions of the developer of Vale View in Diego Martin.

There are some issues that need to be put into proper perspective, however, as follows: In the first instance, this controversial development was approved by the former Minister of Planning, John Humphrey, and not by the present administration, and it is ironic that the man who caused this mess has so far escaped honourable mention, nor will he be called to account for this fiasco. Secondly, I find it difficult to accept that the developer did not know that he was required to seek and obtain the approval of the Highways Division to block off and dig up a main public road. Certainly, his sub-contractors are very familiar with the established rules and regulations for work of this nature. Finally, as the MP for Diego Martin East, which is bounded on the West by St Lucien Road, I wish to confirm that I have asked the Ministry of Works to reinstate St Lucien Road to full highway standards, and to charge the developer for the full cost of the road reinstatement.
