Boy, nine, finds dad hanging
A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy got the shock of his young life when he discovered the body of his 33-year-old father hanging from a rafter in the man’s bedroom at their Dow Village, California home on Sunday night. Investigators believe the man committed suicide.
According to police reports, around 7 pm, David Ramoutar, of Seventh Street, Dow Village California, was found hanging from an electrical cord which was attached to a rafter in his bedroom, by his young son, whom police asked not to be identified. Ramoutar was later cut down by a neighbour who took him to the Couva District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors. Ramoutar was the father of a nine-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl. On visiting the scene, Insp Neil Quash and Sgt Peter Burke found a piece of paper in which Ramoutar apparently wrote out the 23rd Psalm. Ramoutar’s wife told police that she had an argument earlier with her husband concerning his spending and drinking habits. Up to late yesterday, efforts were being made to have an autopsy carried out at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park, St James. PC Latiff Khan of the Couva Police Station is continuing investigations.
