Pensioner wants 2008 grant
Cox, who made a report to Hotline on October 19, said when he did not receive his cheque during the first week of last November, he immediately went to the Social Welfare Division office in Tunapuna.
At the welfare office, he was informed that all grants had been dispatched for that month. According to Cox, he was told his complaint would be investigated.
Not satisfied with this response, Cox said he later questioned the mail delivery woman on whether she had delivered his cheque. She told him she did, and Cox said he believed the cheque was stolen from his mail box. He then checked with his neighbours, who are also pensioners, and discovered they too did not receive their cheques.
After months of waiting on the Social Welfare Division, Cox contacted Hotline. Hotline has since referred Cox’s complaint to the communications department of the Social Welfare Division and an official said it would be addressed as soon as possible.
