$1M fire at Mt Irvine golf course
Fire Service officials in Tobago were up to yesterday investigating the cause of a fire which partially destroyed the caddy/storage house at the Mt Irvine Golf Course on Sunday night. No one was injured. Losses have been estimated at close to $1 million.
The building was 60 percent des-troyed, according to an official report, and a number of golf-carts as well as other related equipment were completely destroyed. The blaze reportedly erupted around 8 pm. Meanwhile, a lighted candle left unattended is believed to have been the cause of a fire which claimed the life of 67-year-old Paul Keith when his home at Spring Garden Trace, Plymouth Road, near Scarborough, went up in flames around 3.45 am last Friday. The house had no electricity. The elderly man was reportedly trying to extinguish the fire when he was overcome by the flames. Keith died from smoke inhalation, according to a post-mortem report.
