Talks on gender equality continue

THE Canadian Gender Equality Programme has provided TT$160,000 to host a four-day sub-regional training workshop for legal and social practitioners to build capacity to remedy gender bias in the legal system. The workshop is being held from October 29 to November 1, at the Ambassador Hotel and is being hosted jointly by the Council for Legal Education and the Centre for Gender and Development Studies. A release from the Canadian High Commission stated that the workshop will discuss current issues and develop strategies for curriculum reform and advocacy with the Faculty of Law, UWI, St Augustine. A number of regional and international luminaries and practitioners in the field of law are in TT to attend. The workshop is said to be closely aligned to the current institutional strengthening project of the Supreme Court of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and to the recommendations of a regional assessment of the administration of justice in gender based violence.
