Logger killed by falling log

An 84-year-old logger was crushed to death while loading logs unto a truck at Mahaica Village, Las Lomas, on Friday.

Reports revealed that around 3.20 pm on Friday, Ramlochan Seebaran was loading the logs when one became loose, fell off the truck and struck Seebaran in the abdomen. He was pinned to the ground and other loggers ran to his assistance. When the log was removed Seebaran appeared to be unconscious. He was examined by Dr Jugipally and rushed to the Chaguanas Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival by District Medical Officer Dr Seebalack. Sgt Dennis Housend, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and Detective Singh visited the scene and carried out inquiries. A post mortem will be carried out today to determine the cause of death.
