Disband the Police Service
THE EDITOR: I am wondering what is going on here? Daily when I read about murder trials, there is someone, some self-confessed guilty perpetrator, who is being granted immunity from prosecution in return for evidence. Is this going to become fashion now?
The way it is looking, a person can murder another and as long as he confesses and strikes a deal with the police he can afterwards walk free to murder again. In the case of Dhanraj Singh we saw that Hypolite is probably walking among us and there is not a thing we can do about it. Whatever happened to “forensics” and “gathering evidence” and that sort of thing? The police once again do not seem to have to work. They just have to dispense “immunity from prosecution” left, right and centre and their work is done. I would like to refer to other incidents when the police did not respond to calls for help from people whose homes were being robbed and the reasons were frivolous. This indicates that police have become redundant. So why are taxpayers’ monies being wasted on giving them exorbitant salaries, housing allowance, wives and concubine allowance and many more if they are not doing anything? Disband the police “service” I say. There is no reason for police in a country where the criminals are allowed to run free and there is no work for them to do.
