Trinmar shut down looms
FOR THE second time in five days, operations at State-owned Trinmar ground to a complete halt when workers downed tools yesterday to protest a management decision at their workplace.
From as early as 5 am, disgruntled workers began assembling at the main gates of the Marine base to protest a decision to transfer the Point Fortin-based company’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) counsellors, to Petrotrin’s Pointe-a-Pierre headquarters. Oilfields Workers Trade Union Trinmar branch-president Ancil Roget, said protest action would continue “indefinitely” at the facility until Petrotrin withdrew the directive instructing the counsellors to report to its main administrative offices. “They have directed that our EAP be dismantled and have instructed that our counsellors here, be removed and report to Pointe-a-Pierre,” he said. He said that the move could result in a number of persons being placed on the breadline and also have an “adverse effect” on workers.
