Getting it right

THE EDITOR: Your letter writer Raoul Daces shows much concern for the wrong use of the word “galvanise.” In my school days, I believe we called that part of speech a synecdoche (pronounced “see-neck-doe-kay”) meaning “one part being used to represent the whole.”
 Of course, back then, we spoke English.
