Lights of Divali reflect unity

THE EDITOR: I felt elated and I got goose pimples when I saw people of a different ethnicity together with their East Indian colleagues at the Republic Bank in San Juan lighting the deyas on the eve of the Divali holiday.

They were all attired in the East Indian dress,  and it immediately showed the love, and respect for each other’s culture. This is the way in which God wants the world to live, we must love and respect each other’s religion and beliefs. This shows that the two main races in this country could live together in peace and love, and they should not allow unscrupulous people to use them as instruments for their wicked reasons. When God created the peoples of the world the intention was for the beauty of creation to live in love with one another. No disrespect and hate was envisaged by the Almighty. The beauty of his creation, and the diverse languages added to the glamour of his creation showing the mystery of life. The peoples of the world were meant to show love to one another as this is pleasing to God, as he always spoke of love. When I see a baby I see the creator through his creation. We were created to love him, but when people cause strife between the races they are not behaving in a moral and spiritual way, but are distancing themselves from the creator.

It is a pity when certain people criticise other people because of their ethnicity or their religion. If we truly love God Almighty we must love his children, in other words our brothers and sisters. People who try to separate the races for their own selfish means would be punished by the creator. When I saw the unity in the bank it opened my imagination, and the lighting of the deyas showed me how people could really live in love as long as they do not allow the bad influence of some politicians to infiltrate, and influence their social lives. We the inhabitants of this country must not allow the evil forces to lead us astray to defeat the lights of Divali, but show love and unity by the illuminating lights of Divali for victory over the evil of darkness and hate, and bring the races closer together.
