Montrose mystery

An autopsy carried out on Gangawatie Davy, the Montrose woman whose nude body was discovered at her home on Wednesday, was inconclusive on the cause of death. The autopsy was carried out at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday by Dr Borris.

The pathologist claimed that due to the state of decomposition of the body, it was impossible to determine the cause of death. Police officers investigating the death returned to the home of the woman and searched for clues. They also interviewed several of her neighbours. Davy, 65, lived alone at Fitt Street, Montrose, and depended on handouts from her family. She was last seen alive on October 26 by her nephew Ramakrishna Persad. Police investigators still suspect foul play in Davy’s death because when her body was discovered, her hands were bound together and a cloth was placed over her head. Dr Birja who carried out initial checks on the body informed police officers that foul play was suspected. Police investigators believe that Davy was raped and strangled and they are hoping to get evidence to prove this. Ag Sgt Ajith Persad of the Chaguanas CID is investigating.
