Exodus blanks Tunapuna parade
Tunapuna-based Exodus disappointed thousands of supporters on Saturday night. Dubbed the pride of Tunapuna in steelband circles, the popular band failed to put in an appearance at the steelband parade to mark the end of Tunapuna Week. It took the likes of Neal and Massy Trinidad and Tobago All Stars, a band called Rhapsody and the Curepe-based Sforzata to make things look good for Tunapuna. A Tunapuna resident explained that Exodus was given prior notice, and the assurance was given that the town’s favourite band would be part of the celebrations.
“But lo and behold,” he said, “there was no Exodus to thrill all those nice people who defied heavy rains to come and jump to sweet music.” Even the police who themselves expected Exodus to turn up were displeased. One officer said: “We put everything in place, sealed off traffic and expected Exodus to use the whole Eastern Main Road that spanned Tunapuna, but no Exodus.” Saturday’s street band festival began with a successful j’overt competition which saw about ten bands parading between 5.30 and 9.30 am to the sounds of top disc jockeys on trucks.
