Lions, TSTT in east League Cup ‘semis’

JOE PUBLIC, The Eastern Lions, will take on TSTT in the first of their two-match semi-final in the League Cup of the Eastern Football Association today.

The action will be played out at Squadron ground, Arouca, from 3.45 pm, and the second-leg match will take place at Valsayn Recreation Ground. When these teams last met at the Arouca venue on November 3, the Lions eked out a narrow 1-0 victory on a goal by Shevon Noreiga. So another is expected to be very close, with the winners advancing to meet Crab Connection in the November 16 final at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya. Meanwhile, Samba Xtra Malt East San Juan United made doubly sure of taking home the Arthur “Jap” Brown Trophy in the league competition with a 2-0 shut out of cellar-placed BM Spurs at the San Juan Senior Comprehensive Ground.

Kerwyn Patrick and Rickie Abdul got the goals for the new ERA kingpins. But a raging battle is on for the league’s runners-up spot with Carib FC again expected to be the bridesmaid. The Brewery Boys collected three points without kicking a ball when Athletico Sports Institute defaulted their match. Police, one of the teams hoping to occupy the runners-up place, whipped Delta Glass Young Hearts 4-1 at Boundary Road Ground, San Juan. Kevin Morang knocked in three goals and Sean Rosales got the other for the lawmen.  Glendon Sebro got the lone item for Young Hearts. Hearty Foods Bulls and Joe Public shared the points after a 1-1 draw at the Arima Municipal Stadium. Dethroned WASA Clean and White managed only a 2-2 draw with Maloney Two Touch, and have now plunged to seventh on the standings. Mishulla Doobal got both goals for the WASA men, while Brendon Danzil notched the double to knot-up the scorers.
