Unfair to move Mr Chablal

THE EDITOR: I wish to comment on a situation at Orange Grove, Tacarigua. At the intersection of the Priority Bus Route about the Orange Grove Road there are vendors plying their trade for over 33 years. Chablal has been providing a service to the people in the community. There are no shops, parlours, newspaper kiosks and because of this he provides a very useful service to us who live in the community.

One can go and walk, crowd the savannah and then go and buy one’s newspapers within walking distance, the older folk, the retirees mainly. The men congregate there for a chat, lime or sit on the bench and read the papers and discuss the events of the day. There are no services or place for the seniors to engage in any activity and the older men get a place to socialise on mornings. I feel that is unfair that after someone has occupied a place for so many years and a place that provides a service, no matter how simple or unsophisticated for the community should be summarily removed.Communities should be caring and our member of parliament should use his good office to try and provide a booth or outlet so that the people in the neighbourhood can access their daily papers and buy their fruits, chat or take a small lime by the senior citizens. Of course it is critical that they keep the place clean and tidy. I do hope that some positive action would occur and that Mr Chablal would be allowed to continue to vend maybe in a more aesthetically pleasing environment.
