Traffic laws for ‘dignitaries’ also
THE EDITOR: Two weeks ago around 3 pm a “dignitary” was being escorted by police outriders out of Port-of-Spain just after the Lighthouse heading east. As usual the sirens were blaring and the outriders were waving frantically for motorists to clear the way for this “dignitary” to fly by.
Of course the inevitable happened. A sudden stop by one car caused the following car to smash into it. On went the “dignitary” and outriders. I mentioned this because I was witness to a similar accident near the Grand Bazaar some time before. When, sir, will our “dignitaries” learn that obeying the law of the road is for all, and they should lead by example? Will the police defray the expenses that the two motorists must pay for their repairs by this indiscretion. An apology to the public is also in order. Outriders are a third world phenomenon.
