Tranquil shut down after CIC students beaten
Classes at the Tranquillity Government Secondary School have been suspended until further notice, according to a release issued by the Ministry of Education yesterday. The suspension of classes follows the attack on students of St Mary’s College on Tuesday by students attending Tranquillity Government. Contacted yesterday for comment, sources at the Education Ministry said an investigation has been launched into the incident. The source also said that classes at Tranquility Government Secondary were dismissed before lunchtime yesterday.
The source said the Ministry of Education was not informed of the suspension of classes, and said they believed the school’s principal, Mervyn Sandy, had contacted the School Supervisor for the area instead. The Tranquillity students were also told that they were not to turn out for school on Friday. The Ministry of Education also informed Newsday that Tranquillity principal and teachers will meet with Ministry officials today to discuss the issue at length. Efforts to contact officials at St Mary’s College yesterday were futile.
