Principal beaten for disciplining child
The principal of the La Horquetta South Government Primary School, Cecilia George, was beaten Wednesday afternoon by relatives of a child attending the school. According to police reports, George was in her office when the incident occurred. Newsday understands that the mother and the grandmother of a child visited the principal of the school to discuss an incident in which the child was disciplined the day before. Reports indicate that on Monday the child along with two other boys, were put to stand outside because they were disturbing the morning assembly. While standing outside, rain began to fall and the boys were sent to the principal’s office.
However, Newsday understands one of the boy’s cousins told the child’s mother about the incident, and as a result, the mother and the boy’s grandmother visited the principal at the school on Wednesday. They are said to have waited patiently, and when their chance came to speak to the principal, the parent is said to have asked, “Why you let my child get wet in the rain?” According to reports, the principal did not appreciate the manner in which the child’s mother approached her, and suggested that she return another time to discuss what had happened, when she (the parent) is in a better mood. In response, the parent pushed principal George in the chest, and continued raining blows about her body, while the grandmother joined in the fracas. The two women ran off, while the principal called for police. The two women were held for questioning, but it is still not known whether they will be charged for the attack on the principal. Yesterday the school supervisor for the area, Rose Bereaux, along with officers from the La Horquetta Police Station, visited the school after other teachers and staff members of the school complained they no longer felt safe in the school environment. The teachers are calling for additional security.
